The Club’s Annual 10 Hour Race - Saturday 9th July 2011
'Pirates of the Caribbean'
The 10 Hour Race is the largest and most popular annual sailing and social event in the Frensham calendar and is coming soon! The theme this year is 'Pirates of the Caribbean' so we shall be expecting some appropriate, even spectacular costume! The format of the day will be as in previous years. The Race itself will run from 9am through to 7pm, with team changes every 50 minutes.
There will also be the usual wide range of 'on-shore' attractions – good food, real ales & Pimms (obviously for the upper class pirates). The 'Pantastic Steel Band' will entertain us from 6pm and food will be served from around 7.15pm. The Race Prize-Giving will take place at 8.15pm, to be followed immediately afterwards by general carousing and talk of 10 Hour Race skulduggery.
Please note that you do not have to be an 'ace' sailor to participate. We are looking for teams of mixed ability, as the race has traditionally been about having fun, with most teams consisting of at least 3 crews: one of good ability, one of moderate ability and one relatively inexperienced. Your Class Captain will help you make up a team or allocate you to a team if you so wish.
Each year, the Club uses the event to raise money for a good cause. This year, the appeal is in aid of 'Toe in the Water', the charity which helps injured servicemen and women re-adjust to life through the inspiration of competitive sailing (see 'www.toeinthewater.org' for information and a video of their activities).
So, we need your help to raise lots of money. A sponsor form can be downloaded from here. Please use it if you can, and further forms will be available in the club foyer. OR, you can make a donation to 'Frensham Pond Sailing Club', marked 'Toe in the Water'.
Monies raised, sponsor forms and donations can be handed in at the club kitchen, or to any General Committee member, or sent to Julia Deacon: Spring Valley, Churt Road, Churt, Surrey, GU10 2QU.
Just £10 raised or donated by each Club member would bring over £5000 for this worthy cause; so, whether racing or not, please make a contribution – it will make a difference and be greatly appreciated.
So put the date in your diary, encourage your family, friends & colleagues to support you and book your tickets now!! Please fill in the form for Race entry and food tickets as soon as possible. Cheques, with entry forms, should be made payable to 'Frensham Pond Sailing Club' and sent with your form to Sally Townsley, 7, Hollytrees, Church Crookham, Fleet, Hants. GU51 5NL, or handed in at the club kitchen.
A great day to enjoy – and to help others. Please be part of it.
