It's a Knockout
What Is It?
A new format of Handicap racing open for all Frensham sailors to sail in a knockout competition for a cash prize, whilst raising money to go to the winner’s choice of charity.
How Does It Work?
Depending on entries we will have either 32 or 16 places available. All entries will go into a draw and the names will be picked out to determine the initial pairings. Each round will take place in normal handicap races (or class races if boats of the same class are drawn together) within a certain time limit. The winner will progress to the second round to race against the winner of the next pairing in the initial draw. The winners of these races will then be in the quarter finals.
The Final will be held in a class of boat not normally sailed by the finalists, decided by the organisers. The final will be held on 4th September 2010.
What If You Lose In The First Round?
All those who lose in the first round will be entered in a plate competition for a lower cash prize, so you get two bites of the cherry. The plate final will also be held on the 4th September 2010.
Entry Fee
The entry fee will be £10.
The Prizes
50% of the entry fee will be donated to the charity of the winner’s choice, the remaining funds will be split 70% to the winner of the knockout challenge and 30% to the plate winner.
When Does It Start?
The competition will start on the 1st May 2010, all round one matches to be completed by the 31st May 2010. Round 2 will be in June 2010, Quarter finals in July, Semi finals in August.
The Rules
- It is not a match race, Portsmouth yardstick numbers will be used to determine the winner of each round.
- All rounds will be run during normal club handicap races or class race if boats of the same class are drawn together; matches can take place at any time during the time limits.
- The onus is on the first named sailor in each group to make contact with their opponent and agree when to race and to notify the scorer of the date of the match.
- If a race has not been held before the time limit for each race has expired then both competitors may be disqualified from the competition unless permission has been granted from the organisers.
- All sailors are to use the same class of boat with the same rig throughout the competition.
- Sailors may enter more than 1 boat, however in the event of one sailor meeting themselves in a round then they will score a bye to the next round but must choose which boat to take forward to the next round before the time limit of that round expires.
- All communications to and from the organisers will be by e-mail.
- In the event of disputes the race organisers will make a decision which will be final. In the event of a dispute involving one of the organisers a panel of other entrants will be convened.
- Elapsed times of competitors to be sent to Jeff Dolton who will score the match and advise results.
