Daily Programme - Young Sailors Scheme - Start Sailing Stages 1 - 3
It is not possible to forecast the daily activities, as there is normally a wide variation in age and ability and the course will be split into groups each of which will have a different daily activity. We will expect everyone to take part in a controlled capsize on day 1 or 2 some will just stay with the boat and others will attempt to right it. This is a closely controlled activity with qualified instructors at hand throughout and it is great fun. Optimists and Cadets or Toppers will be available throughout the course however it is our intention that all course members experience sailing two types of dinghy by the end of the course. The Young Sailors Scheme is designed for youngsters to learn at their own pace and it is unlikely that anyone will finish the course without an award.
On the last day there will be a presentation of awards at 4.0 pm when visitors are most welcome.
Young Sailors Scheme Start Sailing Red Badge - 5 Days
This course is for Club members who are already helming at Stage 3 standard and are actively participating in the Cadet Squadron's Saturday morning racing programme. Training is always carried out in Cadet dinghies and parents are expected to arrange for a competent crew to be available throughout the course. In most cases it is not practical for two children in one dinghy to share the helming in a turn and turn about fashion.
Teaching is carried out by RYA Instructors from outside the boat often assisted by senior FPSC Cadets.
