Hilary Reed

Hilary Reed nee Hunt

I am very sorry to inform members that Ken Reed's ex wife Hilary Reed died at her home in Portsmouth on 13th October following a short illness.

Ken has asked that this be communicated to FPSC Members. Many of the older FPSC members will remember her and her family will be delighted to see them at her burial and the celebration of her life. It will take place at 11.30am on Tuesday 12th November at The Sustainability Centre, Droxford Road, East Meon, Petersfield, Hampshire GU32 1HR.

Hilary joined the FPSC in 1961 as part of the Hunt family membership when she was 15. She learned to sail in her Dabchick in Durban. She sailed with her mother Betty in their GP14 at Frensham and also crewed for Chris Holman. She and Ken sailed together in Graduate No1573, winning many open meetings and the points trophy at the National Championship. She was a great sailor and became an instructor developing the RYA single handed training scheme. She then sailed cruising yachts, mainly in the Solent. She has been unable to sail in recent years but frequently visited Southsea sea front and Hayling Island Sailing Club, posting her pictures on facebook. She will be much missed.
