Celebration party in honour of Nick Craig
On Sunday March 4th a packed clubhouse greeted Frensham Sailing Club’s outstanding competitive sailor, Nick Craig for a lunch in his honour. The party was to welcome Frensham’s finest who has just been awarded the Pantanenius UK Yachtsman of the Year 2011. Nick, Farnham born, learned his sailing as a Frensham Cadet. Frensham’s club Commodore, Jeff Dolton welcomed Nick and his family and asked him the secrets of his racing success. Nick Craig cited enjoyment of the sport and the different classes of boats that he races.
Yachtsman of the Year is a long standing trophy that has some of the greatest names in world sailing engraved on it. Nick Craig is generally rated as the finest amateur competitive sailor of all time. As of 2011 Nick has won a total of thirty seven World, European and national titles. The majority of these in his favourite OK dinghy, but other titles in: Enterprise, RS400, and single-handed Phantom, as well as the extreme high-tech B14 and the newly launched D1 class. The truth is that Nick Craig will win in every design of racing boat he steps into. There is no other amateur sailor in this league now or in the history of the sport of sailing. Nick has stayed loyal to his home club and always enters a contest under the Frensham banner.
Frensham Commodore Jeff Dolton remarked that the club was running out of space on its honours board. When asked what his plans were for 2012. Nick replied: “to keep going”. Frensham and the wider world of sailing anticipate more great things.
