The Pond Superprix - March 25th 2012
On the 25th March 2012 we will be holding the Second ever “Pond Superprix” a series of 8-10 single lap short course sprint races. The aim of the Superprix is to give us all some needed starting practice.
The original Idea came from David Youll who suggested that we should have a day of starting practice, which I then developed into the Superprix. We ran it last year as a replacement for the RS 200 open meeting, as a filler for a moved event but as it was so popular and fun we decided to make it an annual event.
The format of the day will be for 5 races in the morning, have lunch and then have 5 races in the afternoon. There will be 3 classes each having their own start as follows:-
Fast- i.e Laser, RS200, Phantom, Lark RS 100 etc.
Medium- i.e Enterprise, GP14, Solo, Comet Trio etc.
Slow- i.e. Access, Cadet, 2.4mR, Laser 4.7
All races will be committee boat starts, with an area cordoned off with buoy’s as a starting area in which you may not enter until your warning signal, if you are over the line then you have to return to the box and do a 360 degree turn before continuing.
In order to gain a very quick race, all courses will consist of a beat, a spreader leg and a run to the finish, there will be a number of windward marks so that the different fleets can have similar length races. To avoid confusion and to make recording easier there will be separate start and finish lines. The fleets will have 3 minute starting gaps.
All the races will be timed and the results calculated in the normal fashion.
With the start of the club open meeting calendar on the horizon I can think of no better way to get prepared.
Keep this date clear, if you want more info please contact me.
