Sad News - Jim Morley

We are sad to announce the death of Jim Morley at the Royal Surrey after a short non- Covid related illness. As many of you know until recently Jim was an active 2.4mR sailor and Jim also helped the club with publicity until he gracefully retired a year or so ago. Jim joined the Club in December 2002 and he was the son of one of our founding members Commander Norman Morley, who was also the founding Secretary of the Club and it`s third Commodore. So Jim was at the Club enjoying childhood sailing in those very early days .

The funeral will be at Priors Dean Church but has not yet been arranged and will need to be a quiet limited affair.

From all of us at the club our deepest condolences to his sister Pam and his wider family

New Lockdown Confirmed

Dear Member

I am sorry to advise you that in line with the RYA`s advice received at the RYA`s webinar late on Wednesday night it GC have now confirmed that the club must close in line with the National Lockdown and remain closed until the 2nd December or as otherwise advised by HMG. For clarity this means:-

  1. Frensham Pond Sailing Club is closed at least until the 2nd December. You should not sail at the club or attend the club unless it is on essential business
  2. All planned club activity is cancelled and casual sailing is not permitted
  3. During this time the Clubhouse, all toilets, changing rooms, stores and workshops should not be accessed.
  4. You can access the club for any essential work that cannot wait until after the 2nd December. This could include any checks and/or essential maintenance to boats that are essential due to any insurance provisions or requirements. Please advise any such requirement to the commodore in advance so we can maintain a list of attendees during this lockdown period
  5. Our gardener Peter Fitzpatrick will continue to attend on site during the week as his place of work

We are sorry that once again we have to stop sailing but we do need to play our part in continuing efforts to defeat Covid-19. Should any of you want to check the RYA advice in relation to wider sailing activities such as launching from public slipways on the coast Wednesdays webinar is available on their website

FPSC Homepage Website Photos

The recent great open meetings and Sailability photos have prompted me to volunteer to update the photos on our website homepage. The same ones have been on view for a long time and one of the photos is of a member who left over six years ago!

Please could you send me any great photos that you think will be suitable for our website homepage and we will pick the top ones for the website.

The good news is that I am also awarding a good bottle of Bordeaux wine to the person that has taken the best photo.

The suggestion would be that these photos would represent all that is good about our Club over a typical year or so and could include pictures of:

  • All main class boats
  • Exciting sailing photos
  • Large fleets racing e.g open meetings
  • Committee and Safety boats
  • RYA Training – sailing and powerboat courses
  • Sailability
  • MYG
  • Club activities such as 10 hour race, open days, coaching and BBQs
  • Frensham Pond wildlife
  • Dinghy park

…and I’m sure you will have many more suggestions.

Please send me your photos by the deadline of 30th November 2020 and the winners will be announced before Xmas.

Please also pass this request to anyone else that you may know might have some great photos, particularly those many photographers out there.

By entering you will be giving permission to use any photos for marketing our club.

Thank you and I look forward to receiving lots of photos.
