Sailing for Disabled Members

The GC is pleased to announce a return to sailing for the Club's disabled sailors from Saturday 20th February, continuing every Thursday and Saturday thereafter.

Organised sport for the disabled is permitted by the Government as a specific exemption from the current lockdown regulations because of the disproportionate impact on the health and wellbeing of disabled people. The Club has received support to organise this from both the RYA and Waverley Borough Council.

Further information is attached. It explains why this activity is important for disabled people and includes details of how the Club's disabled members can participate.

The GC shares everyone's frustration at not being able to sail at the Club but asks that non-disabled members respect the needs of our disabled members and continue to understand that the Club remains closed to them. Rest assured that we aim to open for all members at the very earliest opportunity.

Sailability Activity Centre

As reported in the Commodore’s Newsletter in November 2020, Sailability were delighted to receive the GC’s support for our proposed ‘Activity Centre’ project. Located on the grassed berthing area facing Jetties 6 - 8, the facility will comprise a fully accessible multi-functional area, together with two integrated accessible toilets.  We are confident that this significant project will be viewed by members as a very positive development for the Club.  It will build upon the mutually beneficial relationship established between Sailability at Frensham and the Club as a whole over the past 20 years.  An outline planning application has very recently been submitted to Waverley Borough Council.  Please visit the Sailability "Welcome" page on the website for further information.

Club Closed Until Further Notice

In light of the latest Government announcements and the RYA's initial guidance on their impact on sailing we regret that the Club is closed with immediate effect.

We will continue to take note of and follow the RYA's guidance as it is updated, but it seems unlikely that there will be a material change to the position for some time.

If anyone needs to access the site in order to secure, protect or remove their boat then please will they email Kate Whyatt at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. so that the Club has a record of their visit.

Peter Fitzpatrick, the Groundsman, will inspect the site every week-day in the course of his work. If any problems are found which affect a member's property then they will be informed as soon as possible.
