Frensham Pond MYG IOM Open Meeting 11th September 2019
The Frensham Pond IOM Open Event for Nick's Knots was sailed on Wednesday 12 September. The wind was predominately north east or thereabouts. Initially there was some 5 knots of wind, which built to have some gusts in the mid-teens but faded to very little at times. This was a demanding day for the sailors, but they all sailed with “A” rigs. A total of eighteen entrants enjoyed the conditions, and a fine day's racing was had by all. The entrants sailed as a single fleet which lead to some congestion at the first marks.
The testing conditions, and high quality of the fleet, lead to a high scoring series. The closeness of the racing was shown by 10 of the 18 entrants winning at least one race. After 16 races only four points covered the first three boats. Shooting up the rankings when the third discard became available, Dave Andrews Sedici design won the event with strong showings in the last two races.
Theo Galyer with a V9 hull was second and third place went to Phill Holiday sailing a Britpop. David Campbell-James, David Adam and Rod Carr took the next three places.
Contestants were very well behaved with penalty turns for infringements being done promptly and usually without any reminders being needed. A strong contingent of Frensham MYG members was there to help with the race administration - especially noteworthy being John Haine's PC skills with the MYA race management system, which worked flawlessly producing results and current placings within moments of the end of each heat.
The sailors came from nine Clubs, and enjoyed a cream tea and prize giving at the end of the day.
