Hemsley Superprix 2026
The end of the winter season at Frensham is marked by the Superprix. Sprint racing meant to prepare all for the summer season ahead and being an event for all.
1 race officer, 10 team members, 3 powerboats, 13 marks laid, 10 races, 120 flag raises/drops, 23 boats, 143 times recorded, 12 classes and I lost count of the number of capsizes. It was a light SW in the morning but quickly built to provide a challenging and gusty day. The Fast fleet was mainly made up of ILCAs with one Phantom and and an Aero 6. Everyone was having a good battle but it was Andrew Soars in his Aero that got the better of Keith Videlo in his ILCA only on number of firsts. The medium fleet was the largest and it was great to see the GP14s and Enterprises out. Ed Clifford showed the way in his ILCA 6 with Pete Cooper in his Solo in 2nd. Both finishing all the races. Well done to Richard Dean who managed 8 out of 10 races. The Not Quite So fast Fleet was small but competitive. Well done to Laura Smith in her Tera for being the only junior out and to Steve Gregory for finishing 9 races. The win went to Bruce Hill in his 2.4.
The Superprix is so much more than winning and I hope everyone enjoyed their day. Although I think a few sailors felt a little broken after it. Many thanks to the race team as they made my life as race officer very easy and it isn’t an easy duty to do.
